The Download with Dr Kelly - November 2024

Hi lovely Coastal Goddess community,

I’m thrilled to announce a new chapter in our journey together. After three years of offering vaginal laser treatments to help women manage specific menopause symptoms, I’ve heard a recurring question from so many of you: “Why can’t you address all aspects of menopause for me?”

The question has inspired me to establish The M Clinic. After extensive study and research, The M Clinic is now open to provide comprehensive support for perimenopause and menopause, right here at Coastal Goddess.

This private clinic offers a full spectrum of both hormonal and non-hormonal treatments designed to guide you through every phase of the menopausal journey. More on that after my update on my trip to Melbourne!

Insights from the World Congress on Menopause

Just last month, I travelled to Melbourne for the 19th World Congress on Menopause, hosted by the Australasian Menopause Society. The congress was a fantastic opportunity to learn from leading experts and to bring back the latest research and treatment insights to share with you. Here’s a glimpse of what I discovered and how these findings will enhance our care at The M Clinic.

New Research on Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT)

One of the most exciting developments was around Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT), previously known as HRT. The latest research supports the use of personalised MHT to help with symptoms like hot flushes, mood changes, and sleep disturbances.

Even more, MHT can offer long-term benefits for bone, heart, and brain health. When started in early menopause, MHT has shown protective effects against osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and even Alzheimer’s.

This individualised approach is key to modern menopause care, making sure each woman’s needs are addressed safely and effectively, so it’s more than just “coping” with menopause—it’s flourishing through it.

Lifestyle Choices for Menopause Management

We also discussed the powerful role of lifestyle factors. Foods rich in phytoestrogens (such as soy and flaxseeds) can help reduce symptoms, while exercise, especially weight-bearing and resistance training, supports bone health, mental well-being, and cognitive function.

At The M Clinic, we’ll work together to incorporate these vital lifestyle choices into your menopause management plan.

The Role of Non-Hormonal Treatments

For those who prefer non-hormonal options, I’m thrilled to continue offering Vaginal Rejuvenation laser treatments, which Coastal Goddess has provided with great success over the past three years.

This minimally invasive treatment effectively addresses vaginal atrophy by improving elasticity and comfort. Many of you already know about this treatment, but I’m always available to discuss it further and see how it can best serve your needs.

Other non-hormonal treatments, such as topical solutions and alternative therapies, can also relieve symptoms like hot flushes and dryness without requiring systemic hormones. This means that we can find a solution tailored to your comfort and health preferences.

Cognitive Health and Menopause

An especially enlightening session at the congress was on cognitive health. Many women experience “brain fog” during menopause, and research now reveals that declining estrogen levels may directly impact brain function.

Since we have estrogen receptors in our brains, the reduction in estrogen during menopause can affect memory and concentration both in the short and long term.

Alongside MHT, brain-healthy lifestyle practices—like balanced nutrition, mental exercises, and regular physical activity—can play an essential role in supporting cognitive function during this phase.

Looking Ahead: Personalised Menopause Care

One of the clearest messages from the congress was the importance of personalised care. Menopause isn’t something women should have to endure silently or navigate alone.

Each woman’s experience is unique, and a personalised approach allows us to explore a range of solutions during a comprehensive, one-hour initial consultation at The M Clinic. Together, we’ll design a treatment plan that best meets your needs.

Returning from Melbourne, I’m more energised than ever to support each of you through this journey. Whether you’re interested in exploring MHT, non-hormonal treatments, or lifestyle adjustments, I’m here to guide you with clarity and compassion.

If you’d like to learn more about how these new insights can benefit you, book a consultation at The M Clinic by calling 4319 4415. I can’t wait to share these exciting new options and continue providing holistic, high-level care to help you navigate this important chapter.

With warmth and excitement,

Dr. Kelly Needham
