What are Wrinkle Rejuvenation Treatments?

Wrinkle Rejuvenation Treatments are designed to relax muscles by blocking the signal between the nerve and the muscle. When you contract a muscle, as you do when you frown or smile, the overlying skin creases, each time, we call these dynamic lines. As we age these lines increase in depth and can be visible even when the muscle isn’t contracted, resulting in static lines, or wrinkles. Relaxing the muscle underneath the skin, effectively smooths out the overlying lines, and can reduce wrinkles with ongoing treatment. The effects start to become evident within 2-3 days, with full results assessed at 2 weeks. Wrinkle Rejuvenation Treatments have been scientifically proven to last 3-5 months.

What is involved in the Treatment?

After a discussion of your needs and a full skin and facial assessment performed by your Coastal Goddess physician, a treatment plan will be tailored to meet your needs. Pre-treatment photos will be taken, and consent obtained. We are highly skilled and experienced practitioners on the Central Coast. We take pride in offering our clients the best possible experience and results.

The Wrinkle Rejuvenation Treatments are superficial injections and take 10-15 minutes. Local anaesthetic is usually not required, as this procedure is mostly painless. However, if you do have issues related to pain there are several options including topical numbing cream, ice, or Entonox gas.
​
You will begin to notice the effects of your Wrinkle Rejuvenation Treatment after 2-3 days, with its results lasting up to 5 months before re-treatment is required to maintain the results. A 2 week follow up appointment will be provided after your initial consultation, to ensure correct dosing for your individual treatment plan.
​
It is important to note that the treated area does not return to normal activity overnight. The muscles start to contract again as new nerve start to develop, generally 4-6 weeks post-treatment. Therefore repeated injections are encouraged for ongoing muscle relaxation. Over time, with continued treatment, the muscles can weaken, meaning longer time between treatments. Every individual is different and patient specific dosing is essential. It may take several treatments to determine your perfect dose.

After care

Avoid putting any pressure on the treated area for 24-48 hours.

Do not massage the area of injection for at least 24 hours.

No strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

No laser or peel treatments to the area for 2 weeks.

Potential Risks and Contra-indications
​
With any medical procedure there are always risks and contra-indications. These will be discussed with your doctor prior to treatment. Side effects are uncommon but may include:

Bruising or redness at injection site.

Mild headache.

Itching.
​
Some other uncommon side effects include:
​

Temporary drooping of the eyelids (ptosis). This occurs in less than 1% of patients and is temporary, generally lasts up to 4 weeks.

Dropping of the eyebrows or a heavy forehead.

Asymmetry.
-
Difficulty swallowing, whistling, speaking and asymmetrical smile – with certain mouth treatments. Very rare.

Wrinkle Rejuvenation Treatments are not recommended for:

Pregnant & breastfeeding women.

Patients with active cold sores.
-
Patients who have had a previous allergic reaction to any Botulinum Toxin product, or who are allergic to any ingredients in the anti-wrinkle injections.

Patients with any medical conditions that affect the neuromuscular system such as Myasthenia Gravis.

Patients with active infection at the proposed injection site.
